Beyond the classroom
Embu College provides opportunities for students to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities. Sport builds teamwork, discipline, confidence, and a strong sense of community beyond the classroom.

Netball is a very interesting and fun game to play. The players are always passionate in their practice every evening from 5.00pm on the field just opposite the volleyball field at Embu College Grounds. We thank our Coach Madam Harriet for her tireless efforts to make sure we have new skills and training. Last semester we represented the college at Regional Ball Games at Meru Teachers College, though we did not proceed to the national level.

The Handball team believes in teamwork, determination, and hard work. Our team has participated in regional and national ball games competitions, including the annual Kenyatta University tournament. Training is held at St. Michael Primary School daily from 5pm. We are optimistic that our handball team will continue to shine and emerge victorious in future tournaments.

Karate is a Japanese martial art and a great way to build character, keep fit, and improve flexibility. Classes are available for complete beginners through to advanced practitioners. We especially encourage the ladies of Embu College to take Karate up as a form of self-defence, while for the gents it is a way to acquire discipline and build the body. Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is played by two or four players who hit a lightweight ball back and forth across a table using a small bat. Embu College has an active team comprising both singles and doubles players. Our players have reached the finals in the singles category at the Kenyatta University tournament, and practice is held at the college cafeteria every day from 5pm.

The Embu College Rugby team was established in 2014 and is also known as the Embu College Lions. The team is in the third division league and has participated in regional and national events, including the Jomo Kenyatta University ball games and the Embu 7s tournament, where they emerged third overall. We encourage students to enrol in the Embu College Lions rugby club.

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Embu College has active men's and women's teams. Both teams recently participated in regional ball games at Meru Teachers College, where the men's team emerged second runners-up. Join the volleyball team for practice every day at 5pm at the volleyball pitch.

The basketball team kept working after being eliminated at the regional level, practising every day from 5pm with unity and one shared goal. The team has built a strong record and continues to pursue new opportunities to compete, improve, and represent Embu College with pride.

Kenyan athletes are renowned worldwide, especially in long-distance races. At Embu College, athletics is both a leisure activity and a career sport. Our athletics programme includes long- and short-distance races, javelin, high jump, long jump, walking, and pole vault.
